In 2015, at COP21 in Paris, a historic agreement was reached between 195 countries. For the first time almost all the world’s nations agreed on the key aim of:

Holding the increase in the global average temperature to well below 2oC above pre-industrial levels and pursuing efforts to limit the temperature increase to 1.5oC above pre industrial levels"

The agreement itself is 27 pages long and contains a lot of technical and legal terminology. However, it is crucial to COP26 and how countries’ Nationally Determined Contributions will work.

At COP26andbeyond we have decided to produce an Article-by-Article Guide to the Paris Agreement on Climate Change in straightforward language. The guide is not a legal text, and it may not capture every detail, but we hope it will help you to understand the key points:

  • The English version of our guide can be viewed and downloaded here.

  • The Italian version of our guide can be viewed and downloaded here.

  • The Spanish version of our guide can be viewed and downloaded here.

We would like to thank Romina Lupo and Anna Strumia for their translations. Gracias & Grazie!
